Faith Humphrey Hill (she/her) received a BFA
from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
and a Masters in Arts Management from
Columbia College. For 20 years, she helped
artist discover and make art through leadership
positions in galleries, museums, and community
arts organizations. Currently, she is a
professional artist, social media manager,
graphic designer, and executive assistant
in an arts non-profit.
She is best known for portrait artwork that
combines knitting and drawing with digital tools.
Her work has been collected, exhibited,
published, and broadcast internationally.
My work provides an optimistic view of technology’s role in shaping our identity and
relationships with each other.
The subjects are strangers to me, just as they are to the viewer of the finished work.
Being a visual artist, I use my eyes to learn about the person, and in the process find
commonalities between us.
Knitting (a form of binary code) is included because of its continuous flow of fibers that
mirrors our interconnectedness as people.
These pieces are created using new and old machines. Incorporating technology in the
process reflects my life with metal implants; as I am a balance between organic and
inorganic so should my art.

I believe in art and the power of the creative energy that resides in each of us. People of all ages, races, abilities,
sexual orientation, gender, and gender expression are welcome here. Our earth and its lifeforms are our shared
responsibility to protect and preserve. I strive to reflect these beliefs in the content I create but also recognize that I have
a lot to learn.
- The Dartily studio is located in Oak Park, IL; this area is the traditional homelands of the council of three fires: The
Potawatomi, Ojibwe, and Odawa Nations. The Sac, Fox, Myaamia, Ho-Chuck, Sioux, and Menominee have also called
this area home. I recognize and respect the contributions these Nations have made both artistically and otherwise on
the land my studio resides and the surrounding areas.
